Jen is a Licensed Professional Counselor In-Training. She specializes in working with individuals and couples, 18 and older. She works from a theoretical perspective of both a cognitive and behavioral approach, while using components of Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. Her areas of expertise include grief and loss, trauma/PTSD, adjustment of life transitions, life goals, marriage/couple issues, parenting issues, depression, anxiety and stress management.
Jen believes in a strength-based approach, which creates a safe space for each client to address their needs. She recognizes the importance of telling your story, addressing unhelpful thought patterns, validating emotions, and setting goals for change that will guide the therapeutic process. She also feels that faith can be a key component in coping with life issues, and uses this approach in her work with her clients, to the extent that it is comfortable or desired by the client. Jen appreciates clients who want to work towards growth, change, and a better future for themselves.
Jen obtained a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Counselor Education from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. She also earned a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She has completed her certification as a Certified Grief Counseling Specialist.
